I've been thinking, I'm one of those thinking types, about the concept of favourites.
From a Deviantart point of view these are a fantastic way of showing that someones work is appreciated. However my criteria for favouriting changes with my moods. Sometimes I will favourite a work simply because I think it is kinda cool and sometimes I will only favourite if the image is exceptional. Is it important in the long run?
I don't think so. it's nice to be nice and the metaphorical pat on the back it gives is normally appreciated. Plus if the image is truly exceptional i won't be able to stop myself from commenting and probably asking how something was achieved so that's alright.
I saw someone mention their favourite Actor/Actress today and the thought occurred to me that my favourite Actors should not be people I can name. I'm weird I know but it's true. An actor should vanish into his role and admittedly the media makes it hard for them to truly vanish but think about it. How many times have you thought "ooh that actors good, I can't remember his name but he was in". That's a good actor. Makes the film better, you know he/she/it (not forgetting our more furred actors. Lol)is good but can't remember their name. Any time you can remember a character better than the actor then the Actor has succeeded.
It makes me kind of hate the media a little. I mean if I didn't have to read about someone that i've seen on screen having kids, having affairs, having counselling then I would be able to appreciate their acting better. And really, how much is it actually in the public interest to show the public that people do stupid things, we can see that every day.
Anyway, favourites in DA are cool. But in actors is bad. End of random lecture, soliquay. And more importantly, end of my working week. Yay Me.
